Oh hey!
Ryan and I FINALLY visited my design school bestie and her husband in Nashville, it was long overdue!! We naturally had to plan the trip around our favorite things: design and food. When we were in school we always tried to find the tastiest places in Minneapolis or St. Paul in between the hours spent on design projects and studying. It was our reward after memorizing countless designers for our art history and architecture class 😂 Now it’s our tradition 🙂 Keep reading to see how we took a cuisine and interior tour of Nashville.
Immediately after picking us up from the airport we headed to the Bare Bones Butcher for lunch and OMG we had the best cheeseburger and bulgogi beef sandwiches of our lives. SO juicy and flavorful. We had to go back for more. I think we ate there at least two more times before we left. Can you blame us? What pairs better with good food than clean lines and modern lighting?

Dinner was a Nashville staple: Peg Leg Porker. Hands down the best pulled pork and mac and cheese. Period. The secret ingredient to the mac and cheese? Queso. Yes, queso!! We are still trying to recreate it at home. The industrial interior and low key vibe make it an inviting space for any one who loves delicious Southern comfort food. It also has a second floor complete with event space and an entire suite for visiting celebrity chefs.

Saturday we headed to brunch at Liberty Common, a cafe where Southern comfort meets European style. We went for the pretty space, stayed for cinnamon rolls, the Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, and croque madames. Because who wouldn’t want to continue to sip a tasty chai in this French bistro inspired cafe?
Then because I have a love of all things pink, glam, and a touch of Dolly Parton, we headed to the White Limozeen. Everything was unfortunately booked but we were still able to take in the unique design of the Graduate Hotel and roof top bar. I was enamored. It’s so different from anything I have seen and I couldn’t get enough! Shades of pink, vintage frames and mirrors were everywhere. And of course, LOTS of velvet. This place sets the bar high for a day or night of champagne and sass.

Dinner at the Redheaded Stranger for AMAZING street tacos. If you are ever in Nashville you need to try the barbacoa and chopped brisket tacos. Add in a side of “totchos” (tater tot nachos with queso, black beans, jalapeños, pickled red onions and lime sour cream) and you are golden. And don’t skimp on the Dr. Pepper hot sauce. Favorite part of the interior space? Hands down the tile work. Colorful vertical tiles line the kitchen and order prep areas that complement the light natural woods used throughout the space. The table tops are all custom, made with black and white tiles. I love how it ties into the vintage diner feel of the bar, counter stools, booths, and chairs but adds to eclectic and vibrant aesthetic.

Saturday night was spent at the Listening Room, probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. You get to spend the night with friends and the writers and producers your favorite country music. You hear the back story of the songs and how each one has impacted the music industry today. Tickets can be purchased on their website. It’s something you won’t want to miss!!

It was a great weekend spent catching up with friends and celebrating the newest member of the Bonfield family!! She is set to arrive any day now, and we couldn’t be more excited! We can’t wait to visit again to meet her and bring her on some Nashville design adventures!
