Mixing and matching patterns and colors with pillows is one of the easiest ways to add interest and dimension to your space. The number one question from all of my clients is “how do you do it?”
You can never go wrong following this rule of thumb. When choosing pillows, select at least one solid, one geometric, and one organic pattern. This goes for mixing patterns in other soft surfaces in your space, like curtains or cushions.
And now you may be thinking “how do I know what is what?!” Don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging! When you searching for geometric styles, be on the look out for clean lines with repetitive shapes:
Organic patterns tend to have curvier forms, and you can find natural elements in them:
Layer in some textures if you want to take things to the next level. Mix velvet, silk, linen, boucle or faux fur! Changing the scale or size of your pillows can create a focal point on your sofa or bed too – the cherry on top of your pillow formation.
